Tonight's Emmys honored actress Sandra Oh with nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Television Drama for her role as Eve Polastri in Killing Eve and Outstanding Drama Series for her role as Executive Producer on Killing Eve. This marks twelve Emmy nominations for the renowned actress.

Oh has earned a reputation as a talented actress, with many memorable credits to her name throughout her decades-long career in the film and television industries. With roles such as the iconic Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy to her current role as Eve Polastri in Killing Eve, Oh has cemented her place as a trailblazer in the field. In the words of Shonda Rhimes, the showrunner of Grey's Anatomy, “Sandra Oh has chosen to fearlessly take up space in a universe that has not always made space for her.”

Oh’s legacy extends far beyond the television screen. As a celebrated actress, she has been using her platform to discuss social issues within Hollywood as well as in society as a whole. In the past, she has addressed her identity as an actress of Asian descent in Hollywood, where she stated that she began introducing aspects of her identity into her characters as her authorship of her work grew. Most recently, Oh’s character Eve Polastri was portrayed in New Malden outside of London, known as the largest gathering of Koreans outside of Korea. In reference to this scene, Oh said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times, “It was just a small bit of the show, but I wanted to bring the flavor of that because we carry our culture, we carry our history."

She has also been vocal about using her platform to promote the Black Lives Matter movement, which has come to a head with protests occurring throughout the world for the last four months. Our collaboration with Oh also centers around a design that aims to bolster visibility of this movement. The jacket features embroidery of the mugunghwa, the Korean national flower, and the inscription “흑인의 생명은 소중하다.” (meaning “Black Lives Are Precious”) on the front alongside the trigrams from the Korean flag.

When asked by Vogue UK about her motivation to collaborate with KORE, Oh stated, "After George Floyd’s death and the protests that followed, I felt that as an Asian-American, a Korean-American person, I wanted to express my support for the Black community in a way that felt personal to my community."

With that vision in mind, together, we are donating a portion of the proceeds from our collaboration to Campaign Zero, a non-profit organization aimed to analyze policing practices and end police violence; and Black Girls Code, an organization aimed to empower girls of color for their futures in STEM fields by exposing them to computer science and technology.

We at KORE were excited to work with Oh because, like many others, we were inspired by her fearlessness. In the past, Oh mentioned the importance of preserving her identity as a woman of Korean descent in the less-than-diverse entertainment industry. As our brand name stands for “Keepin’ Our Roots Eternal,” we found the idea of working with someone who shares a similar vision with us as a brand an amazing opportunity to create something unlike anything we had done before.

"This is the moment to wear fashion that’s important and sends the right message," Oh said in her Vogue UK interview.
